Some members will notice a change in their take home pay as the new school year begins. This will have occurred because of changes to the pension system and the NEA dues structure.
Last April the General Assembly voted to make changes to our pensions. The most immediate impact is that members will be contributing an additional two percent of their pay, raising their share from 5% to 7%.
At the NEA Rep Assembly in July, the delegates voted to implement a $10 per year dues increase. The dues increase will be used exclusively to fund NEA's Crisis Fund, which is designed to put money back into the states for pro-public education outreach. This increase is spread out over the eighteen paychecks dues deductions are taken. At this time, PGCEA has not yet approved its budget for next year, but no dues increase is projected.
