Parent Conferences
4.15 D 6 Efforts should be made to schedule parent conferences at mutually agreeable times and to provide at least 24 hours notification of the conference, unless the principal determines that it is an issue that needs immediate attention. This language was needed in view of a growing problem. That is, in recent years, we've seen more and more principals take the position that parent conferences are to be scheduled exclusively to the benefit of the parents and/or the principal. The teacher's role, input and calendar were being treated as irrelevant. With the new language, the principal can schedule conferences in bona fide emergencies but "short of that " is not permitted to exclude the teacher's role, input and calendar from professional courtesy and consideration.
