Negotiators for PGCEA and the Board of Education met on Wednesday, October 1, to discuss the remaining unresolved proposals. Tentative agreements were reached on most of the remaining items. The stumbling block to a settlement throughout the process has been the inability to reach an agreement on compensation and the Association’s proposal on providing planning time for elementary teachers.
The concept of more planning time during the student day for elementary teachers has been and continues to be a priority for PGCEA. Unfortunately, the BOE’s team has failed to respond to PGCEA’s proposal in a manner that could bring resolution to the process.
The session terminated with PGCEA providing the BOE with a counter proposal on the remaining items. That is likely to bring either a resolution or an end to formal discussions.
